With over 500 events planned for downtown Detroit in the coming months, there is literally no excuse for saying “I’m bored!” And that’s only at four of Detroit’s parks. Grab a few friends and take a trip downtown this summer to Campus Martius Park, Grand Circus Park, Capitol Park, and Paradise Valley’s Beatrice Buck park.

This summer, head down to Campus Martius and take in one of several music events. In August, Faygo will be featuring a Saturday Movie Night from 8 to 11 p.m. The park will also be hosting their wildly popular “4th Friday” series. This year, the series will see We the Kings gracing the stage on June 26, Bootsy Collins on July 24th, and Steel Pulse on August 28. Other Fridays during the summer will bring several Reggae bands to promote the beachy vibe Campus Martius has going on at the park.

Get your culture on at Grand Circus Park with their Rhythm & Stage Thursdays. There will be opera, dance, and several other performances all summer long.

The Detroit Institute of Music Education presents the “Live, Loud & Local” concert series on Saturday nights. Later, in August, there will be a Sunday brunch and music event.

Beatrice Buck Park is going to be hosting “Dancing Under the Stars” on June 20, July 18, and August 15. These nights will feature lessons for amateurs followed by open dancing.

August 27 through the 29, the Detroit Free Press will present Detroit SummerFest.  That weekend will see events and activities at all four of these parks.

See you in the D!
